Getting dental implants in Sector 49, Gurgaon means several visits over a few months, so it helps to know the sequence before you begin. The stages, in order
- Assessment. Your mouth is examined and imaging shows how much bone you have and where the nerves and sinuses lie. Decay or gum problems are treated first.
- Placement. Under local anaesthetic, the post is placed in the jawbone. The area is fully numbed, and some soreness over the next few days is normal.
- Healing. Bone grows around the post over a period of months. You may have a temporary tooth during this time, and you go about normal life with some care over what you bite.
- Crown. Once the post is firm, impressions are taken and a crown is made and fitted to match your other teeth.
- Follow-up. Check-ups keep an eye on the bone and gum around the implant.
Implant, bridge or denture?
| Implant | Bridge | Partial denture | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neighbouring teeth | Left untouched | Trimmed to carry it | Clasped or rested on |
| Fixed in place? | Yes | Yes | No, it comes out |
| Time to finish | Months | Usually weeks | Usually weeks |
| Surgery? | Yes | No | No |
An implant also helps preserve the bone where the tooth was lost, which a bridge or denture does not do. It is not always the right answer, though, and a bridge can be the better call when the teeth on either side need crowns anyway.
Why it pays to act sooner
After a tooth is lost, the bone in that spot slowly shrinks and nearby teeth can tilt into the gap. Waiting does not rule out an implant, but it can add steps such as bone grafting.
Looking after an implant
An implant cannot decay, but the gum around it can become infected. Brush and floss as you would around a natural tooth, keep your check-ups, and tell your dentist if you grind your teeth at night.

Frequently asked questions
How many visits will I need?
Usually a few: assessment, placement, a check on healing, then the crown stages. More are needed if bone grafting or other teeth need attention first.
How long does the whole process take?
Commonly a few months, because the bone needs time to bond with the post. Your own timeline is set after the assessment.
Can I eat normally during healing?
Soft food is best at first. You will be told when you can bite on that side and how to protect the area.
Does a smoker's implant heal differently?
Smoking slows healing and raises the risk of failure. Cutting down or stopping around the surgery helps, and it should be discussed openly at the assessment.
