A tooth has two parts namely: crown and root. Crown is a portion seen above the gumline whereas root is the portion present below the gumline.
Purpose of Root Canal
Root canal is performed once the dental decay reaches the pulp. Once the pulp gets infected it causes pain. Pulp is the living tissue that has blood and nerve supply. The purpose of root canal treatment is the removal of infected pulp. This is performed with the help of files and infected pulp is removed. Root canals are cleaned and shaped properly and canal is sealed with a filling material.
